J-integral analysis of the elastic strain fields of ferrite deformation twins using electron backscatter diffraction

The strain fields of deformation twins in the ferrite matrix an age-hardened duplex stainless-steel (Zeron 100: 25%Cr, 7%Ni) have been studied situ under load, and ex (unloaded), using high-resolution electron backscatter diffraction (HR-EBSD). local two-dimensional (2D) elastic field acting on twin tip was parameterised for first time energy release rate (J-integral) then decomposed into mode I II stress intensity factors (KI KII). An improved method to select reference used, based relationship between HR-EBSD cross-correlation peak height mean angular error. described by KI increased with thickness. in-plane shear field, KII, relaxed when load removed.
